God Works Today Introduction
I asked for a Happy Meal and only received a hamburger. Can you relate? We leave the drive up window only to discover we didn’t get what we asked for. That’s right, people make mistakes (I sure have) but God never does; and, he doesn’t want us to settle for anything less than the best he has for us . . . who needs the french fries anyway? I’ve never thought of God as a drive up window, but then again, sometimes I pray that way . . . order what I want from him and then drive away really fast . . . that is, until I want something again. Even though I mess up, God is still at work at the intersection of the cross and the world he is interested in reconciling.
God Works Today is a blog by me, Rhonda Baker. It’s also a blog by you, the reader, as you share your “God Works Today” story with the rest of us.
The goal of my blog is to build a bridge of understanding how a real God who loves us, receives us, and forgives us interacts with us on daily basis. My prayer is that it will inspire you to look in the mirror and out the window and believe what Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “No chance at all if you think you can pull if off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it (The Message).” Perhaps you may remember it better this way, “With God all things are possible.”
I am an ordained pastor who by God making it possible (yes, it’s a God story), received my Masters of Divinity degree through Northern Seminary in Lombard, IL and have served as one of many pastors to the world we live in. Most recently I have served as the Women’s Pastor at Central Christian Church in Henderson, NV. My husband, Randy; two sons, Kyle and Jordan; and dog, Gus, are the loves of my life and we live out life in the desert sun of Henderson, NV. My favorite food is chips and salsa just in case you want to send me a gift card so I can taste test these at your favorite restaurant. I love reading and writing and being in nature, but most of the time I just plain love loving people.
So let’s get going – I’m already wondering what you think about Matthew 19:26 . . . “No chance at all if you think you can pull if off yourself. Every chance in the world if you trust God to do it.” For me, over time I’ve realized this God story is not just about me and so I can’t even pull off a blog all by myself if we are called to live in real community. It needs God’s involvement and it needs you! So then, what’s your trusting God story?
